To mark the themed year ‘Tacheles – Jewish Culture in Saxony’\, CON SPIRITO will be exploring the ‘Jew ish Tunes’ of the Leipzig Romantics from 12 to 20 September 2026. The pr ogramme will highlight the friendships between the Schumanns and the Mende lssohns\, as well as those with Joseph Joachim\, Giacomo Meyerbeer\, Heinr ich Heine\, Ferdinand Hiller and Ferdinand David. Richard Wagner also take s centre stage with his youthful admiration for Felix Mendelssohn Barthold y and Giacomo Meyerbeer\, which later turned into the exact opposite. Look forward to the 6th festival season at Leipzig’s European Heritage Sites – this is where music comes alive!\n\nProgramme: DIASPORA\n\nThe Amster dam Klezmer Band’s roots grow both from the streets and the music-conser vatory. The band loves tradition and innovation\, blows down festival tent s\, the roof off concert halls and draws tears in theaters. The AKB has be en active in making music for almost 30 years.\n\nThe music of the Amsterd am Klezmer Band is a vibrant mix of klezmer\, balkan\, ska\, jazz\, gipsy\ , oriental and hip hop. It is an energetic mix of styles that is guarantee d to lead to a big party in any live situation.\n\nWith their new album\, Diaspora (Asphalt Tango Records)\, the band returns in 2026 to its acousti c roots while subtly reshaping them\, capturing the music in its most imme diate and joyous form\, with a newly prominent role for drummer Mischa Por te. \n\nSince 1996\, this group of Amsterdam musicians has grown into a we ll-oiled\, internationally renowned\, seven-piece klezmer phenomenon. Anyo ne who expects a traditional evening based on the name will be in for a sh ock. Because the AKB has forged it’s own sound\, in which their own work is enhanced with rap\, electronics or a ripping sax.\n\nThe Amsterdam Kle zmer Band inspires worldwide. Bands are popping up in South America coveri ng AKB songs. What distinguishes the AKB from many other Balkan and klezme r bands is the way in which the band\, versatile and always developing\, k eep on managing to give its music a new meaning. The band’s music is alw ays open to deviant or pleasantly disruptive musical influences. That’s why the band sounds fresh and exciting\, and they get that back from the a udience. The band’s mission is simple: Celebrating life with music toget her with as many different people as possible. The Amsterdam Klezmer Band makes no distinction between genres\, styles\, origins\, religion\, or pol itics.\n\nAnd that approach proves to work well in many countries. The ban d not only played at major festivals in Europe such as Lowlands\, North Se a Jazz Festival and Sziget\, but they also played at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam\, the Wiener Konzerthaus\, the Cité de la Musique in Paris and at the jazz festival in Hong Kong. Festivals\, theaters\, stages\, concert halls\, bars or simply in the open air on the street\, no stage is too bi g or too small.\n\nThe line-up of the band consists of Job Chajes (sax and raps)\, Janfie van Strien (clarinet\, percussion)\, Joop van der Linden ( trombone and guitar)\, Jasper de Beer (Bass)\, Ellen van Vliet (accordion) and Mischa Porte (percussion and drums).\n\n20 albums have now been relea sed. They entered into collaboration with Söndörgő\, Amsterdam Andalusi an Orchestra\, Galata Gypsy Band and many others. Soundtracks have been re leased for\, among others\, the film “le Chat du Rabbin” by Joann Sfar and music for the nature documentary “De Wilde Stad”.\n\nVenue: St Th omas’ Church\, Leipzig\nTickets: Category 1: 35/20 EUR (con.) | Category 2: 20/15 EUR (con.) plus booking fee\n\nTickets online\n\nas well as at t he Thomasshop and all ticket shops\n\nConcessions: students\, children\, L eipzig Pass holders\, people with severe disabilities\n\nFurther informati on: www.conspiritoleipzig.de ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://www.schumannhaus.de/wp-content/uploads/2 026/01/CS-26-Logo-Rechteck.png CATEGORIES:Con spirito END:VEVENT BEGIN:VTIMEZONE TZID:Europe/Berlin X-LIC-LOCATION:Europe/Berlin BEGIN:DAYLIGHT DTSTART:20260329T030000 TZOFFSETFROM:+0100 TZOFFSETTO:+0200 TZNAME:CEST END:DAYLIGHT END:VTIMEZONE END:VCALENDAR
