Using pictures, diary entries and short video sequences, we reconstruct how the Schumann couple traveled during their lifetime. We find answers to the questions: What could not be missing in the travel suitcase? How long did a journey from Leipzig to Moscow take and what challenges did the Schumanns encounter along the way?

Word Sound - Writing to Music by Robert Schumann

The magic of music, although often described, we can never fully grasp. What do we feel when we listen to music? - It speaks to emotions, invites associations and can even inspire writing.
Robert Schumann had a special double talent: he composed not only with sounds, but also with words. His passion for literature also permeates his music. The students use creative writing to explore Robert Schumann's instrumental work Waldszenen, Op. 82. With guidance, they learn the method of freewriting, a technique that encourages students to write down what is on their minds without judgment. The result is a personal collection of texts on Schumann's music.

Clara Schumann, a feminist?

Leipzig, city of music and trade fairs and founding place of the first "Allgemeiner Deutscher Frauenverein" (ADF). In 1819, two extraordinary women saw the light of day in Saxony. One was Clara Wieck, a piano virtuoso and composer, the other Louise Otto Peters, a critical writer, a champion of women's rights and a founding member of the ADF. The lives of the two women are similar and yet could not be more different. Both came from middle-class families and lived as emancipated women. But emancipated by their political stance or emancipated by external circumstances? With the help of letters and newspaper articles (primary sources), the students themselves go in search of the answer to the question: Clara Schumann, a feminist?

Clara's flower press

Clara Schumann also collected a variety of gorgeous flowers on her concert tours, which she kept in her flower diaries along with travelogues. What a beautiful souvenir.
Like Clara, we build and design our own flower press and collect fresh flowers on a walk. Afterwards, you can of course take your flower press home with you.
