8th Leipzig Clara Schumann Competition
The New Leipzig Chopin Society (Neue Leipziger Chopin-Gesellschaft e.V.) annually invites young pianists to Leipzig for the Clara Schumann Competition, which is open to participants from across Germany.
The competition is dedicated to Clara Schumann (1819–1896) - a Leipzig-born piano virtuoso, composer, and Germany’s first female professor of piano. With her great-great-granddaughter Heike-Angela Moser serving on the jury, a direct line connects today’s musical traditions to the Leipzig of the 19th century, a city renowned as a major European center of music.
The competition program reflects the stylistic diversity of the solo repertoire Clara Schumann performed during her 60-year concert career, encompassing her own compositions as well as works ranging from the Baroque era to the music of her contemporaries.
At the prizewinners' concert in the Schumann Hall, you will hear the results of this year's competition.
